The WRMC Breast Care Center is a multidisciplinary approach to breast health. One in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Advances in screening technology, surgical techniques, and cancer treatment have dramatically improved survival rates for women with early stage breast cancer. Our approach is designed to ensure access to education, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship resources for patients throughout our service area. High Risk Breast Clinic

Patients with an abnormal mammogram may be referred for a high-risk consultation. While not a conclusive diagnosis of breast cancer, further evaluation is needed after an abnormal mammogram. Patients are seen by Michele Snow, APRN. At this appointment, she will explain the results and recommend further diagnostic tests and follow up care. Diagnostic imaging referrals to 3D mammography, breast ultrasound, or breast MRI depend on the specific needs of each patient.

Genetic Testing

Today, genetic testing is used to identify a patient's personal risk for breast cancer and guide screening recommendations. Genetic testing has also transformed the treatment of breast cancer and increased 5-year survival rates by using targeted therapies. The Breast Care Center can answer questions and guide patients through the genetic testing process. Breast Cancer Risk Questionnaire

Lactation Counseling

Breastfeeding is the healthiest choice for baby and mother. Our APRN, Michelle Snow is a certified lactation consultant and can help new moms learn the techniques for successful breastfeeding.

Nurse Navigator

The care plan for a patient with breast cancer can be overwhelming for the patient and their family. Some patients do not have family or friends close as a support network to help them navigate their treatment and survivor journey. Our breast care program includes a Nurse Navigator to help guide patients on this journey.

The Nurse Navigator is the patient advocate and assists with scheduling, insurance pre-certification, and access to social services that may be required to ensure patients receive appropriate timely care. Our Nurse Navigator can also help patients transition from breast cancer treatment into survivorship.
