Symptoms to report to your baby's doctor:
- Blue or pale colored skin
- Yellow skin or eyes
- White patches in the baby's mouth
- Loss of appetite or eating poorly
- Less than 6 wet diapers per day or no stool in 48 hours
- Umbilical cord has redness, drainage, or foul odor
- Temperature of 100.4° or more
- Difficulty breathing
- Repeated vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Listlessness (lacks energy)
- Excessive crying with no cause
- Rash
- Congested cough, runny eyes or nose
Taking your baby's temperature:
- If taking your baby's temperature under the arm, remember to always add a degree.
- If taking your baby's temperature rectally, remember to always subtract a degree. This is the preferred method if you are unsure the temperature reading was correct or if the temperature measured under the arm is above 100.4.
