PROS Offers New Therapy

PROS Offers New Therapy

(Batesville, Ark.) – White River Health System (WRHS) is proud to announce Betty Bradley, PT, GCS, has received certification as a Pelvic Floor Therapist.  She was awarded the Certificate of Achievement in Pelvic Physical Therapy by the American Physical Therapy Association, Section on Women’s Health, after completing comprehensive education, training, and testing over a three- year period. Betty performs Pelvic Floor Therapy at the Physical Rehab Outpatient Services (PROS) Therapy Clinic in Batesville.

Pelvic Floor Therapy treats a number of conditions including issues with urinary incontinence, back pain, bowel disorders, scar tissue management, pain during intercourse, pregnancy, and postpartum pain.  Statistics show at least an 80% chance of complete resolution of incontinence with pelvic floor therapy. Pelvic floor issues affect both men and women; however, due to the effects of pregnancy, childbirth and declining estrogen levels, it is more common in women.  Many patients go without treatment because they are unaware of this alternative treatment.

A physician referral is required to start Pelvic Floor Therapy. Once in therapy, a comprehensive physical therapy (PT) evaluation is conducted. Treatments will vary depending on the needs of each patient. Treatment may include bladder training, urge suppression techniques, core strengthening, soft tissue mobilization and consideration of modalities to address back or hip pain.

“This service has not been previously available in our rural area, leaving patients to search for care in cities such as Little Rock,” said Gary Paxson, President & CEO of WRHS.  “Betty’s certification has allowed us to reach a patient population in need of alternative therapy so they can receive care closer to home.”

In addition to Pelvic Floor Therapy, Betty is also trained in the treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunction and pain with pregnancy/postpartum.

Most insurances, including Medicare, cover Pelvic Floor Therapy. Betty sees patients at WRMC Pros Therapy located at 1699 Harrison Street.
